The year 2026 marks a significant milestone for the Japanese Society of Sleep Research, as we convene our 50th Annual Scientific Meeting. On this memorable occasion, we have chosen to dedicate the meeting to the pursuit of “science” by bringing together the collective wisdom of the various academic societies in Japan engaged in sleep-related research and clinical practice.
The theme of this congress is “Integrating for the Science of Sleep.” With the generous support of our current President, Dr. Naohisa Uchimura, meaningful progress has been made toward the long-cherished goal of formally recognizing Sleep Medicine as a clinical specialty. This theme expresses our commitment to integrating both the academic discipline of Sleep Medicine and the broader science of sleep.
The 50th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Society of Sleep Research will be hosted by Nihon University, with Professor Yoshitaka Kanita (Department of Public Health, Nihon University School of Medicine) and Professor Masayasu Suzuki (Department of Psychiatry, Nihon University School of Medicine) serving as Vice Presidents.
We are also honored to hold this joint congress in collaboration with the 25th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, chaired by Specially Appointed Professor Hiroshi Kakutani (Department of Psychiatry, Shiga University of Medical Science), with Vice President Dr. Chisato Iida (Department of General Dentisty Institute of Science Tokyo Hospital / Iida Dental Clinic), and the 7th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Academy of Sleep Technologists, chaired by Associate Professor Tomoko Yagi (Kurume University School of Medicine), with Vice President Mr. Katsunori Yamamoto (Toyohashi Mates Clinic). We extend our sincere gratitude for their collaboration and support.
We are particularly grateful to Dr. Makoto Uchiyama, former President of the Japanese Society of Sleep Research and former Professor of Psychiatry at Nihon University School of Medicine, who has kindly agreed to serve as Supreme Advisor to this joint congress. I am personally indebted to Dr. Uchiyama, who appointed me as Vice President for the 41st Annual Meeting under his presidency and generously guided me in every aspect of congress management.
The meeting will be held on July 23–24, 2026, at Makuhari Messe. The congress will primarily take place in person, with on-demand streaming available.
As in previous years, we anticipate a hot summer season. We encourage you to dress in cool business attire for your comfort at the venue. While we hope you will stay physically cool, we also look forward to lively and passionate academic discussions. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the many corporate partners for their generous sponsorship, including luncheon seminars and associated meetings.
In addition, this congress will be able to give lectures to local organizations, including the Chiba Prefectural Medical Association, the Chiba Prefectural Dental Association, the Chiba Prefectural Medical Association, and the Chiba City Dental Association. Thank you again.
In the summer of 2026, we warmly welcome all professionals engaged in sleep medicine and research to join us.
Let us gather our collective wisdom and work together toward a bright and promising future for the science of sleep.

Conference Chairman Hiroshi KADOTANI

It is a great honor to welcome you to the 25th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (JADSM), held jointly with the 50th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Sleep Research and the 7th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Academy of Sleep Technologists. This landmark event will take place on July 23–24, 2026, at Makuhari Messe. Marking the first time these three societies have convened for a joint congress, we are privileged to have Dr. Chisato Iida (Tokyo Science University Hospital / Iida Dental Clinic) serve as Vice President representing JADSM.
Since becoming an accredited subcommittee of the Japanese Dental Association in 2021, JADSM has seen steady growth, with membership surpassing 1,000 in 2023. Our academy is dedicated to a broad clinical scope, including oral appliance (OA) therapy for obstructive sleep apnea, maxillomandibular advancement (MMA), myofunctional therapy (MFT), pediatric sleep-disordered breathing, and sleep bruxism.
Building on the foundations laid by our founding President, Dr. Satoshi Kikuchi, and his successor, Dr. Morio Tonogi, JADSM remains committed to international collaboration. We continue to play a leading role in the Asian Dentofacial Sleep Society and are pleased to host international symposia and workshops at this meeting. This congress offers a unique platform for interdisciplinary exchange across basic science, clinical sleep medicine, and sleep technology. We look forward to your active participation in this historic gathering.

Message from the President
The 7th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Academy of Sleep Technologists

Conference Chairman
The 7th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Academy of Sleep Technologists
Tomoko YAGI
Conference Chairman Tomoko YAGI

It is a great honor for me to serve as President of the 7th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Academy of Sleep Technologists (JAST), which will be held jointly with the 50th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Sleep Research and the 25th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine on July 23–24, 2026, at Makuhari Messe. This is a historic occasion in which three distinct societies dedicated to sleep will come together on the same stage, and I am deeply honored to walk this path alongside all of you.
Although JAST is a relatively young society, having been incorporated in 2020, its roots trace back to the “Japan PSG Study Group,” and for over a quarter of a century we have been promoting the dissemination and standardization of sleep testing in Japan. Today, our society has nearly 700 members, and through annual meetings, regional activities, workshops, and seminars, we continue to provide information and training that directly support clinical practice, education, and research. In today’s increasingly complex field of sleep medicine, delivering accurate and reliable testing is essential to safeguarding patient health and enabling better treatment outcomes.
The 2025 Basic Policy of the Japanese Government highlights “sleep” as a priority in both healthcare and economic policy, and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has released a “Sleep Guide” to promote healthy life expectancy. As societal interest in sleep reaches unprecedented levels, the role of the Japanese Society of Sleep Research has become increasingly important, particularly in developing new healthcare models through multidisciplinary collaboration. In recent years, participation by nurses and psychologists has expanded, and in the future, including pharmacists and other healthcare professionals will further broaden the potential of sleep medicine.
This joint congress provides a unique opportunity to gain a comprehensive overview of the field—from basic research to clinical applications, dental sleep medicine, and sleep testing technology. I am confident that this gathering will foster mutual learning among different professions and specialties, generate insights and practical strategies for the next generation, and create opportunities for collaboration.
For the 7th Annual Meeting specifically, we have planned sessions addressing challenges encountered in clinical practice, as well as educational programs for young professionals. We will also explore important issues such as the integration of sleep testing into telemedicine and home healthcare, as well as the promotion of quality assurance and standardization. Our goal is to create a program that is both practical and academically rigorous, enabling participants to take home knowledge and skills directly applicable to everyday clinical practice. Above all, we hope this meeting will allow professionals from diverse fields to interact across boundaries, respect each other’s expertise, and build new partnerships.
I very much look forward to meeting many of you in person on the grand stage of Makuhari Messe. We will do our utmost to ensure that this congress serves as a catalyst for advancing the future of sleep medicine, and I warmly encourage your active participation.
