Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the Organization Committee of the 57th Annual Meeting of Japanese Society of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery (JSPCCS), we are pleased to inform you that we have decided to hold the 57th Annual Meeting of the JSPCCS
From Friday, July 9th to Sunday, July 11th, 2021 in Nara. (http://www.nara-cc.jp/english/index.html). Nara is an ancient capital of Japan, a city located pretty close to Osaka area (80 minutes from the Kansai International Airport). The style of the meeting is assumed to be hybrid with a mixture of on-site and online sessions. We think positively of the advantages of online meetings and will continue to explore new ways to hold future academic events.

The main theme of the 57th Annual Meeting of JSPCCS is “Challenge, Innovation, and Creation for the Future.” Whenever seeing patients with pediatric cardiovascular disease, we have to act proactively and energetically. We also have to challenge bravely every problem with our maximum passion, creativity, and innovation. Recently, due to the complexity and busyness of daily practice, medical professionals have become less willing to take risks. However, we would appreciate that young people take risks and challenge as many things as possible for their future, such as domestic or international study-exchange. Such self-improvement eventually leads to contribution to the medical care of sick children. This is an important issue for their instructors and for the entire JSPCCS society. We do hope that all the attendees recognize the importance of the challenge spirit from all perspectives during the meeting. The National Cardiovascular Research Center has relocated to a new place in July 2019 for the first time since it was established in 1977. We are well settled at the new facility and ready to take on more challenges.

In conjunction with the 57th Annual Meeting of JSPCCS, the 16th Japan-China-Korea (JCK) Pediatric Heart Forum will be held on July 10th and 11th on the web.

The Forum was originally started by pediatric cardiologists and cardiac surgeons from the three countries; however, we would like to call for abstracts from all countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

At the same time, the International Pediatric Heart and Lung Transplantation Symposium, organized by Prof. Fukushima, National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center, will be held at the same venue. This is a very unique and significant symposium where we will be able to discuss medical and social problems posed by pediatric heart and lung transplantation globally. We hope you will join us at this symposium as well.

On a different note, the kingdoms of Japan became unified first in the 3rd century. Nara was the first permanent capital established in Japan in the early 8th century. The Nara period was a short and chaotic era because of deadly pandemics like smallpox, famine, and political confusions. However, people at that time were eager to make Japan a splendid country. Many young officers were sent to China and Korea to learn their legal systems in order to establish new legal codes in Japan. Jianzhen, the highest ranking Buddhist priest at the time, was invited to Japan from China while a gigantic statue of Buddha was created in Nara. It was an era when Japan dedicated itself on internationalization for the first time in history. Shrines, temples, and museums with tremendous historical heritage in Nara convey the passionate thoughts of the people who wanted to make Japan a splendid country from ancient times. At the 57th Annual Meeting of JSPCCS, we would like to impart novel and instructive knowledge to the world from the origin city of Japan's internationalization. We hope that we can appreciate together the passion of the ancient people when you come to the meeting site.

We are looking forward to seeing you in July.
Sincerely,

Welcome Message to the 16th Three-Country Pediatric Heart Forum with Asian-Pacific Symposium 2021 Participants

Dear colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to announce that the forthcoming 16th Three-Country Pediatric Heart Forum with Asian-Pacific Symposium 2021 that will take place on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 July 2021. The meeting will be conducted online, in the form of an easy style webinar, in conjunction with the 57th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Nara, Japan. The Three-Country Forum was canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we considered it more the reason that we should further promote our friendship and inspire young doctors by exchanging our clinical knowledge in the current difficult and trying times.

The meeting consists of 8 sessions with fascinating research topics in the following fields: surgery, Kawasaki disease/general cardiology, interventional cardiology, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, pulmonary circulation, arrhythmia, surgery versus intervention, and Fontan failure.

Free registration is available for overseas doctors, nurses, and clinical technologists who work with children with cardiovascular diseases.

We hope that the meeting will be helpful to our daily medical care of children with cardiovascular diseases.

Best regards,

Kisaburo Sakamoto, MD.
