Challenging issues related to end-of-life care in Korea and Japan

Summary

This symposium is a joint initiative of the JASCC and the KASCC. The theme, "Challenging Issues Related to End-of-Life Care in Korea and Japan," will focus on ethical, legal, and regulatory issues surrounding end-of-life care. Critical issues to be explored in depth include withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment, Do Not Attempt Resuscitation (DNAR) orders, advance care planning (ACP), and supporting surrogate decision-making. Additionally, we will highlight differences in healthcare systems, guidelines, and practices between Japan and South Korea. By comparing and examining the current situations in both countries, the conference aims to provide an international forum for discussion that will contribute to improving the quality of end-of-life care.
