The 86th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Cancer Association
President Naoko Ohtani
Professor, Osaka Metropolitan University Graduate School of Medicine
We are pleased to announce that the 86th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Cancer Association will be held from September 16 to 18, 2027, at the Osaka International Convention Center and NCB Hall in Osaka. It is a great honor for me to have the opportunity to serve as President of this Annual Meeting.
The theme of the meeting is “Pioneering Future Strategies for Cancer Control Through Collaborative Innovation.” Considerable progress has been made in elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression, leading to the development of numerous molecularly targeted therapies. Nevertheless, the complete control of cancer has yet to be achieved. Further progress will require “collaborative innovation” that brings together interdisciplinary research, partnerships among basic science, clinical medicine, and industry, collaboration across generations, and international cooperation. Through these collective efforts, we hope to pioneer new strategies for cancer control. With this goal in mind, the meeting will highlight the frontiers of cancer research, including cancer prevention.
We are particularly honored to welcome Prof. Shimon Sakaguchi and Prof. Shinya Yamanaka, Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine, who will deliver special lectures at the meeting. The program will also feature approximately 40 symposia on cutting-edge topics, international sessions jointly organized with researchers from overseas, drug discovery symposia featuring industry researchers, educational lectures, emerging technologies, and opportunities for interaction between academic and industry researchers.
As a new initiative for the 86th Annual Meeting, we will introduce a series of Translational Workshops focusing on topics directly relevant to clinical practice. We will also offer special programs including the Survivor–Scientist Program (SSP), which promotes interaction between cancer patients, survivors, and researchers, as well as researcher well-being and career development initiatives such as the Cancer Research Career Forum. A special session for university and high school students will also be offered to inspire the next generation of cancer researchers.
Through these diverse programs, we hope to bring together researchers from basic science, clinical medicine, and industry, across disciplines and generations, and to make the meeting a meaningful and rewarding occasion that fosters new interactions, collaborations, and renewed enthusiasm for cancer research.
We sincerely hope that the 86th Annual Meeting will provide an opportunity for all of us to take a new step together toward our shared goal of controlling cancer. We very much look forward to welcoming you to Osaka in September 2027.
