Dear Colleagues and friends,

It is my great honor to serve as a chair of the 24th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Anti-Aging Medicine held from 31 May to 2 June in 2024 in Kumamoto.

Over the years, it is widely accepted without question that a person's physical functions decrease in the course of aging, and no one can escape from being afflicted by the diseases commonly found among elderly persons. However, the remarkable developments in technology and science in recent years with rapid advancement of our understanding of the body and mechanisms of aging, we have realized this is something that can be resisted. Changes in the body depend on their biological age, not calendar age, and those changes increase the risk of developing both physical and mental disorders and diseases. Accordingly, attention is being drawn to the importance of early detection and quick responses to age-related changes in individuals of all age groups and genders.

Given that, we set the theme of this 24th meeting to the "Innovations in Practical Science: A New Era for Aging Control", aiming at providing you with opportunities to present and discuss the latest practices and results in anti-aging science and medicine, and focus on innovations in practical anti-aging medicine that can be applied at any time and in any situation to achieve specific goals, depending on individual age-related changes.

The year 2024 marks the renewal of bank notes, and the new 1,000-yen note will feature the face of Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato, who was born in Kumamoto and devoted his life to the practice of medicine in practical ways to benefit society. In keeping with his spirit, we would like to hold the 24th Annual Meeting in a regional city, Kumamoto, for the first time ever, with a strong focus on the practical science of anti-aging medicine.

The tap water in Kumamoto City is completely supplied by groundwater from rainfall in the Aso region, and this natural mineral water contains a fine balance of calcium, potassium, magnesium, silicon and other minerals. Good water is a core element for good health, and Kumamoto is blessed with it. Also being located in the heart of nature, surrounded by the sea, mountain ranges, hot and cold springs, everything you can find in this area is delicious, healthy and unique, from the bounty of the sea and mountains to fruit trees and farm products.

We hope you will join us in Kumamoto, a city of water, forests, and fire. Stimulate all five of your senses, an important component of anti-aging, and refresh yourself as you enjoy the 24th Annual Meeting, a step toward the practical implementation of the best methods for happy, long and healthy lives for each and every one of us, and open up a new era for the healthy aging for all.
