下田 和孝

It is my great pleasure to announce that the 40th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (JSCPT) will be held in Keio Plaza Hotel (2-1-1 Nishishinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan) from December 4 (Wednesday) to December 6 (Friday), 2019. By opening the 40th Annual Scientific Meeting of the JSCPT and paying homage to the history and tradition of the society accumulated by its pioneers, let us renew our dedication to clinical pharmacology.

Clinical pharmacology is the basis of pharmacotherapy. As an academic field, clinical pharmacology underlies pharmacotherapy strategies and methods and is essential for the development and evaluation of the drugs used by medical teams to combat various illnesses. Clinical pharmacology covers a wide range of fields, including drug development and clinical trials and their ethical conduct, support for global drug development and associated strategies, clinical studies to improve pharmacotherapy such as individualization of pharmacotherapy and prediction of adverse effects, and basic genome research supporting such topics.

To bolster the further development of clinical pharmacology by drawing on the cumulative experience of the society, the theme of the 40th Annual Scientific Meeting of the JSCPT is “In Search of Clinical Pharmacology for a Sparkling Tomorrow”, which is reflected in the design of the meeting poster.

We plan symposia and workshops to integrate cutting-edge findings, concepts, and knowledge for almost two and a half thousand participants with various backgrounds, including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, clinical research coordinators, and laboratory technicians, in order to foster vigorous discussion and information exchange based on the reports of a wide range of clinical pharmacological studies. In addition, Professor Leif Bertilsson (Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden) has been invited as a special lecturer.

The venue is located in Shinjuku, which is conveniently located in the center of Tokyo. I am not able to suggest a famous tourist attraction or sightseeing spot, but attendees will be able to enjoy the clear December air, beautiful night skies, and city lights of downtown Tokyo in Shinjuku. We have also already developed a fabulous social gathering plan, which will surely be unforgettable.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at the 40th Annual Scientific Meeting of the JSCPT.
