Preparations are underway for Joint Annual Conference of the 40th Annual Meeting of Japanese Society of Biological Psychiatry & 61st Annual Meeting of Japanese Society for Neurochemistry to be held for three days, September 6-8, 2018, at the Kobe International Conference Center. Around the same time, WFSBP Asia Pacific Regional Congress of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP 2018 KOBE, September 7-9, Kobe Chamber of Commerce and Industry) will be held, and the three academic meetings coordinate their programs, while registration arrangements are made so that the participants can easily move between the two venues.

The Joint Annual Conference provides a forum for basic and clinical researchers in neurochemistry and psychiatry to exchange opinions and ideas under one single roof, which, as we think, has resulted in many original studies and collaborative projects.

This year, “Gaining mechanistic insights on brain development, function, and disorders” was chosen as the theme of the Annual Conference. How can networks composed of countless brain cells generate various functions performed by the brain? How are these networks supporting proper operation of the brain constructed in the course of their birth and development? And how do pathological conditions occur to disturb proper operation of the networks? At this conference, we would like to promote an in-depth discussion between researchers of both academic societies towards clarification and understanding of the brain and its diseases in these underlying terms.

Incidentally, the artwork in the Conference’s poster and webpage symbolically presents building the brain through aggregation of numerous triangular elements, and the inverse process of the brain destruction due to a disease.

The Conference program will include plenary lectures, educational lectures, symposia, educational seminars for young researchers, oral presentations, poster sessions, luncheon seminars, and many other events.

We look forward to your participation in the Conference!
