We will hold the 91st Annual Meeting of the Japan Endocrine Society for 3 days from April 26 (Thursday) to April 28 (Saturday), 2018, in Phoenix Seagaia Resort, Miyazaki City. We are proceeding with preparations aiming at a conference to meet your expectations, and its smooth operation.

The conference poster depicts the sun and the sea, the symbols of my homeplace Miyazaki, splashed with hormones. Progress and future of Endocrinology are entrusted to the morning sun ascending from the Pacific. The theme of the conference is ‘Endocrinology allures your interests right now’. As a fifth-year student, I excitedly listened to a lecture by Dr. Hisayuki Matsuo (the first Professor of Biochemistry at Miyazak Medical College) about LH-RH structure determination. ANP was identified later, and more than 50 types of physiologically active peptides were discovered; in my graduate school days, I closely learned exploratory works on hormones by Dr. Hisayuki Matsuo and Dr. Kenji Kangawa (the current Director General of the National Cardiovascular Center Research Institute), and felt that “Endocrinology is really fun”. Under the guidance of sometime professor Shigeru Matsukura, I got involved in endocrinological clinical practice, which further spurred my interest. The conference theme reflects my feelings for the increasingly developing field of Endocrinology.

iPS, gene editing, molecular imaging, and other innovative technologies are widely employed in the Endocrine field, and dramatic progress in research is observed in unprecedented dimensions. This attracts young people, and more than 300 new members enter our Society every year. I would like to be involved in progress of Endocrinology “day and night”, to discuss Endocrine methodology in new aspects, and to contribute to nurturing new members who will take responsibility for the next generation. Many scientists participating in this conference will deliver their first lectures here.

At the end of April, Miyazaki is blessed with a mild weather of early summer. The conference venue is located within just 20 minutes by car from the Miyazaki Airport, and is directly connected to the Sheraton Grand Ocean Resort hotel, which is extremely convenient. Having been completely renovated, both the conference venue and the hotel are ready to welcome the participants. There are also many hotels in the city, and shuttle buses will be operated between the conference venue, the airport, and hotels in Miyazaki. The Seagaia Convention Center is located in a resort area at the Pacific Ocean shore; a variety of night social events are scheduled to make this annual meeting a memorable occasion. We will also offer excursion for family members.

We ask for your cooperation and support towards a meeting that will rediscover the ‘fun of Endocrinology’ based on ‘whole body diagnostics’, the greatest strength of Endocrinology clinicians and would have you feel fully feet its attraction.

We will continuously give updates in the hope to encourage more applications for topics and participation.
