Awards and Student Travel Grants

The 26th APWSS Conference provides a unique opportunity for young researchers, especially students to present their research and discuss with leaders in their fields and receive encouragement to continue their work.

These Travel Grants and Awards are funded by The 26th APWSS Conference Organizing Committee, the Weed Science Society of Japan, and the International Weed Science Society.

APWSS 2017 Kyoto Student Travel Grants

Travel grants provide partial travel support to students who have an accepted abstract with a high score for the 26th APWSS Conference.

Travel grants Eligibility and Criteria

  • Candidates must be a student enrolled full-time as undergraduate or graduate at institutions of higher learning in a scientific field related to weed science.
    Student status will be verified.
  • To be considered, applicants must check the appropriate box in to opt-in to the grants process in the online abstract submission system.
  • Several types of student travel grants are available as follows:
    1. The 26th APWSS Student Travel Grant
      • Number Available: 5
      • Amount awarded: 30,000JPY
      • Geographic: Applicants must reside and conduct research in Asia-Pacific region.
        The purpose of this travel grant is to support travel, hotel accommodation and registration for the 26th APWSS Conference for students who are unable to raise the necessary funds. We particularly encourage submissions from developing country students in the region.
      • Scientific: Abstract must be reviewed and accepted for presentation by the 26th APWSS Conference Program Committee.
    2. The International Weed Science Society (IWSS) Student Travel Grant
      • Number Available: Maximum 3
      • Amount awarded: 500 USD
      • Scientific: Abstract must be reviewed and accepted for presentation by the 26th APWSS Conference Program Committee. Decisions of the IWSS Board of Directors are final.
      • Support will be given to graduate students.
      • Support will be given only to students from developing countries currently enrolled at a university in their home country or abroad.
  • Students wishing to apply for the IWSS Student Travel Grant must send :
    1. A Curriculum vitae and Motivation letter (max 1 page each)
    2. Confirmation of faculty about their student status
    3. The submitted APWSS abstract in which the candidate is a presenting (main) author.
    4. A 5-page manuscript including Tables and Figures (PDF file, 12 pt Times New Roman font, 1.5 line spacing, and 3-cm margin all around) with Summary, Introduction, Materials & Methods, and Results & Discussion of the manuscript presented at the 26th APWSS Conference as a main author. In the case of more than one paper presented as main author, candidates should choose only one of them for this application.
    5. All documents should be sent via e-mail to the 26th APWSS Conference Program Committee. Deadline for submission is May 31, 2017.
    6. Abstract submission must separately be made electronically through the 26th APWSS Conference online abstract submission system no later than May 31, 2017.

The grant winners will be contacted by the 26th APWSS Conference secretariat by Mid-June, 2017. Travel Grants recipients are required to pay for their registration fee upfront.

APWSS 2017 Kyoto Best Oral & Poster Presentation Award

  • Number Available:
    2 (Best Oral Presentation)
    2 (Best Poster Presentation)
  • Amount awarded: 20,000JPY
  • Awards will be given to researchers who are under 35 years old.

Travel Grant recipients must attend the conference and present their abstract to receive their prize.
